First Silver

Location: Local Park in Ontario
Day/Time: Thursday, June 17, 2010

So, it's been 3 weeks since I've started MD and other than a few minor finds (coins, whistle, scraps) I haven't found any silver. But not today!! So I headed out to a local park today and started my hunt. I changed my tactic today and set my detector to COIN only to see if i could target pennies that i had found in that area previously. My first discovery was a quarter, which led to a 2nd quarter that i felt in the wall and pulled out to my astonishment which has never happened before. Seemed like a youtube video in the making. And when I thought all the targets had been found, yet ANOTHER inch in the same hole...another quarter lie. Except after I dug them up they rang iron. Individually and as a cluster they rang iron. To this day, I still can't get them to ring up coin again. Not bad for the first dig of the afternoon.

Found a few more after- '64 penny, '49 penny, and a quick few pulltabs later... another '64 penny so something's feeling right. Next find, '66 AMERICAN dime (Go Team USA!!!). That was a heart stopper. Finally, my first silver [or so I thought. Upon further investigation, I found that this was the year the dime had moved to clad- SO CLOSE!!] Next was a 1968 Quarter. Now we're talking! I got excited because NOW I can feel that I'm getting close to something. This is just too good. GYEA! So after that quarter I pegged out a '71 penny, '81 penny and an '84 penny. These were all about a few feet apart. Pretty active "beach" (former beach actually) back in the day.

I walked away from an old firepit toward some trees. A fond location for young lovers... the clothes were falling, and apparently so were the coins!! Between a supremely mixed signal of iron, nickel, ring, gold, pulltab and coin.... I decided to dig into the freenzy of metal and about 4 inches later into a horseshoe of luck, there I saw the image of Hera... err.. ok young Victoria, but it was still a goddess in the sunlight to me. So, after watching countless hours of Youtube videos, and people discovering their own silver joys, being as envious as I was, i can now bask in the glory of the silver coin.

I am officially a member of the silver club. I am now a true man. (*And I didn't even have to kill a bear!)

So, enjoy the pictures... while I roll around in my piles of coins.
